The Honda Pilot came out in 2003 and immediately made waves as the industry’s first three-row SUV using a unibody platform. Before that point, three rows of seats were exclusively the property of truck-like full-size SUVs. The Honda Pilot is a strong contender in the segment today and current models are packed with cutting-edge tech. Here are three features you should be using if you own a Honda Pilot.
1. Honda Sensing
Honda Sensing 360 is a driver assistance system with advanced safety features. Initially, Sensing 360 used sensors to cover the front and rear of a vehicle, but was upgraded in 2021 to cover a full omnidirectional view. It was launched in China first, but Honda has been slowly rolling it out to vehicles sold in the United States.
A few years later, Honda debuted Sensing 360+, which was an even more advanced version of the system. It included the same features as Sensing 360, but it also added a driver-monitoring camera and HD maps. When Honda Sensing is activated, it shares notifications and alerts. The system can also provide braking and steering assistance.
For example, one of its most useful features is the Collision Mitigating Braking System. This innovative system alerts you when your vehicle is at risk of hitting another vehicle or a pedestrian. It will automatically apply the brakes if it seems like the collision is inevitable.
2. Honda Link
Honda Link is a practical connection system with various useful features depending on your tiered subscription plan. If you have Honda Link’s free tier, you can get recall notices, and service reminders, and check the health of your vehicle. If you move up to one of the paid subscription tiers, you have three choices: security, remote, and concierge.
The security plan includes emergency calling and automatic collision notification. The remote plan allows you to set vehicle speed limits and geographic boundaries. It also shows your vehicle location and allows remote engine starting and remote locking. The concierge plan adds personalized assistance for travel booking.
The Honda Link app isn’t available for all Pilot models though, so you’ll want to visit the MyGarage website and select your Pilot’s year, model, and trim, or use your VIN to find out if it’s available.
3. Apple Watch Integration
The Apple Watch app for Honda Link is free, but there are a few restrictions. First, you’ll need to have a Series 3 with WatchOS 7 or above, and you’ll also need to have an active Remote subscription plan for Honda LInk. If your setup fits that criteria, you can link your Apple Watch to your Honda LInk through the iPhone app.
Once you have your Apple Watch integrated with Honda Link, you can use it to monitor your Pilot’s health, positions, and more. By using remote management, you can also start, stop, lock, and unlock your Pilot with the iPhone app. Your Apple Watch can be used to turn on the vehicle’s lights and manipulate the temperature controls. If you have more than one Honda vehicle, you can even link and control them all on your Apple Watch.
