The Dodge Charger EV: Reviving a Muscle Car Legacy

The Dodge Charger EV: Reviving a Muscle Car Legacy

A new version of the Charger will soon be at a Dodge dealer near you, and it might be even better. The Dodge Charger EV is powerful and fast, and it’s a beauty.

After 20 years of creating muscle car memories, production of the Dodge Charger as we knew it stopped. But the fun is not over.

A Quiet but Loud Ride?

The Charger EV is a zero-emissions electric vehicle, so, of course, the ride is quiet. But if you’re a muscle car driver, part of the experience is that engine growl. Not to worry. Dodge makes sure you still get it. The new Charger will have some new technology called eRupt. The multi-speed transmission has a 126 dc Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust that can match the sound of the original Hellcat.

An Electric Powertrain Designed to Impress

So, what about the power? How does two electric motors capable of producing up to 670 horsepower sound and 627 pound-feet of torque sound? Not too bad, but you’ll have to wait a little longer for this version to arrive at a Dodge dealer. The first Charger EV will be the R/T with 496 horsepower.

A 110.5-kWh battery designed for performance over range will feed the motors because, well, this is a performance vehicle.

What Does it Look Like?

The new Dodge Charger has been completely redesigned from the ground up. It will be built on the new STLA large electric vehicle platform. The new Charger will be a two-door coupe, which is a departure from the four-door model we are used to seeing. But aside from the number of doors, the exterior look will be all Charger. A domed hood and headlight bar will give the front a menacing look, and a front air dam that Dodge called the R-Wing will allow air to move through the front to increase downforce.

The new Fratzog logo will sit front and center to make sure everyone who sees this will know it is the EV.

A Redesigned Interior

Once you get inside the new Charger EV, there will be no mistaking that you’re in a Dodge. Bucket seats in the front look comfortable and spacious, and a pistol-grip shift lever sits between the seats. The EV version of the muscle car will also have paddle shifters on the steering wheel that the driver can use to adjust the regenerative braking. Three different levels of braking force will be available.

This is a modern Charger, so expect to see lots of screens and technology. A 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system will sit in the center of the dash, and either a 10.3- or 16-inch digital gauge cluster will give the driver all the information they need to stay informed about what’s going on with their vehicle and on the road.

Are you ready for the new Dodge Charger EV? You still have to wait a little while before it arrives at a Dodge dealer, but we are getting closer.
