Two Top Plug-In Hybrid SUVs
What makes these vehicles special is that they are both plug-ins. What does that even mean, though? Well, there are three main types of hybrid vehicles, and each has its own way of operating. There are mild hybrids, full hybrids, and plug-in hybrids. All three are powered by a battery and an internal combustion engine (ICE).
The Toyota RAV4 Prime is a plug-in, and so is the Hyundai Tucson PHEV. This means while both other types have internal charging sources, such as regenerative braking, plug-ins also use external charging sources (either at home or public charging stations). Drivers who have shorter commutes might rarely depend on the ICE, which reduces emissions and saves money at the fuel pump.
Performance and Range
These two SUVs, the Toyota RAV4 Prime and the Hyundai Tucson, are top-rated because of their size and their versatility. Midsize vehicles pack a lot of power and performance. How do they compare now that they are hybrid vehicles?

That said, the Hyundai Tucson PHEV does better than the RAV4 in some areas. Although the RAV4’s speed and acceleration are good, Tucson’s handling and responsiveness are unmatched. Lastly, the RAV4’s range in EV mode is 48 miles until the battery switches off and fuel is used again. Likewise, Tucson’s battery range is 33 miles.
