The First Pitch
It was 1988 when Jack Roush made his first pitch to upgrade an existing Mustang. He wanted to form a partnership with Ford with his twin-turbocharged Mustang (400 horsepower). The goal was to put a Roush Mustang in every Ford showroom in America.
Unfortunately, Ford passed on the deal. Ford’s leadership thought that this kind of enhancement would be too expensive to produce in bulk. Seven years later, Roush opened Roush Performance Products in Livonia, Michigan. He started with aftermarket performance parts but eventually began offering complete in-house vehicle packages.
Generations of Excellence
The first-generation Roush Mustang put this performance company on the map. He took the SN95’s V8 Mustang GT and offered three levels of upgrades. The Stage 3 package was a complete performance upgrade.ROUSH continued to offer various stages, but you could now get either a V6 or V8 Mustang for the second generation. This was also when the Roush Mustang Sports package was introduced that offered a modified exhaust, exterior upgrades, and more.
The third generation hit the market in 2005 and used the S197 GT Mustang as its base. Roush really hit his stride with a full lineup of options, including Roush Sport, Roush Stages 1 -3, and several special edition Roush Mustangs: Black Jack, 427R, P-51a, the Speedster, and more.
In 2013, the Roush Team partnered with Ford Racing to create the Ford Racing 5.0-liter DOHC Aluminator Crate Engine. The motor for this powertrain retailed for $8,879. It was such an impressive engine that it became available for any manual transmission Stage 3 Roush Mustang.
The most recent generation continues the strong legacy of Roush Mustangs with options covering the new 2.3-liter EcoBoost Mustang and the 5.0-liter V8 Mustang.
Roush Mustang: More Than Just Upgrades
Roush became more than just a performance company in 2010 when it launched the Roush Road Crew. This club is full of Roush and Mustang enthusiasts who put together events, meetups, and more. It turned the thrilling performance of a Roush Mustang into a vibrant and engaging community, and you don’t even have to own a Mustang to join. You do need to pay the nominal $35 membership fee each year.
Roush also opened a performance shop where shoppers can find a variety of high-quality aftermarket parts: superchargers, exhaust, cold-air intakes, front grilles, body kits, pedals, brakes, and more. These available parts aren’t just for Mustangs, either; you can find enhancements for the Ford Focus, F-150, and Super Duty pickup trucks as well.
