The Lotus Eletre Gives Us a Show Before the Reveal

What do we know about the Lotus Eletre? We know this vehicle is a brand-new electric Lotus SUV that used to go by the name Type 132.

This new electric SUV is ready for a show with a reveal taking place on March 29 at 2:30 pm EST. Will this SUV be capable of bringing the Lotus name to its former glory or will the brand continue to offer small numbers but still give us some of the most amazing vehicles in the market? The answers are less than 24 hours away.

What Does the Name Mean?

Every automaker has a reason behind the names they choose for the vehicles we see. The Eletre is no different. The name means “coming to life” in some languages and it’s not pronounced the way it looks. Lotus gave a phonetics lesson with the pronunciation which is “El-etra” giving us the proper way to say the name of their new SUV. This name came to us in dramatic fashion with a large yellow box containing the vehicle itself driving down the River Thames in London. This is certainly one way to make a huge statement.

We Know Very Little About this SUV

Other than the name reveal and the date it will show up in a live stream, we know almost nothing about this new Lotus SUV. The Lotus Eletre could be a sporty SUV meant to take on the likes of the Porsche Macan, or it might be a family-sized three-row crossover ready to carry the entire family wherever they need to go. It’s truly difficult to know what to expect with such a secretive model and the fact that it only shows up as a box floating on a boat, which is not always the best combination.

The Inflection Point

Lotus is approaching a major point in its brand history with the final gas-powered Lotus, the Emira, on the way out the door. This will make room for the new lineup of electric vehicles offered by this brand starting with the new Eletre which shows up tomorrow. From submitted images of the Type 132 prototype, we can guess this SUV will be a compact model that is sized somewhere between the Porsche Macan and Cayenne. The electric build offers a more spacious cabin, at least we guess it will, and allows the crossover to take on a much sportier shape than normal.

A Bit About the Batteries

If the Lotus Eletre comes directly from the Type 132 build, this new model will ride on a platform that offers batteries ranging from 92.0 to 120.0 kWh and works with an 800-volt electrical system. This new SUV should be the heaviest vehicle ever made by Lotus. That’s not saying a lot, this brand is well-known for the lightest sports cars in the world. The battery pack might be heavier than some of the cars we’ve seen from this brand in the past.

The wait is almost over, the Lotus Eletre arrives tomorrow to give us the big reveal of what it will be and where it will fit in the luxury SUV market.
