Rearview Mirror: Second-Quarter Results of the Stocks We Follow

We are halfway through the 2021 calendar year and the second-quarter of the stock market performance has ended.

It’s time for us to take a look back in our rearview mirror to see how each of the stocks we follow has performed over the past three months. Let’s take a look at how each of these companies fared on the stock market and determine whether or not investors should continue to invest with them.

Toyota Motor Corp. (TM)

Toyota has had an interesting path this quarter. When we look at the graph that shows all three months together, we saw mostly upward movements in this stock. April gave us a starting price of $154.70 which was where the price stayed until the middle of May. The high point for this stock was reached on June 17 at $185.20 before it ended the quarter at $174.93.

Honda Motor Co. (HMC)

The second-quarter results for Honda gave us a path from a low price to one that moved up quickly during the final month o the quarter. The price in April was $29.92 and this price moved up and down a little through May. When June began the price jumped to the quarterly high of $33.20 on the 4thbefore finishing the quarter at $32.28.

General Motors (GM)

The ride for investors in GM stock was a bumpy one throughout the quarter. The price began at $60.83 and moved to a low for the quarter of $53.76 on May 12. The high point of the quarter was reached on June 8 at a price of $63.92. The quarter ended with this stock at $57.48 and on its way downward. This makes us wonder what next quarter will bring for this stock.

Workhorse Group (WKHS)

Another stock that has a ride down and back up to give us an interesting second-quarter performance is Workhorse Group. This stock began at a price of $13.20 and moved steadily downward. The low price of the quarter was reached on May 13 at a price of $7.48 per share. The high price was hit near the end of the quarter at $17.20 on June 29 before finishing the quarter at $13.86.

BYD Co. Ltd. (BYDDF)

BYD may have moved downward during the quarter, but it finished strong. The starting price was $22.54 and then the low price was reached at $18.00 on May 10. After this, the price moved upward during the rest of the quarter to hit a high point of $30.67 on June 28 before finishing the quarter at $28.67. This result gave investors an excellent profit for the quarter.

GreenPower Motor Co. (GP)

The second-quarter performance of GreenPower is one of the few stocks we follow that gave us a negative result. The price began at $21.28 and it moved down to reach $14.48 on May 13. The price moved back up a little bit and spiked upward to $20.77 on June 29 before dropping back to $18.26 to finish off the quarter. This gave investors a loss for the entire quarter.

NIO Inc. (NIO)

Another one of the stocks we follow for the second quarter of the year that gave us positive results is NIO Inc. This stock began the quarter at $37.27 and it moved up and then down to hit a low of $31.22 on May 13. The price turned around and moved up to a high point of $53.20 on June 30 before it finished the quarter at $50.13. This result gave investors an impressive level of profits for the past three months.

First Trust NASDAQ Global Auto Index Fund (CARZ)

CARZ has a rocky month with many ups and downs. The second-quarter performance of this stock began at $58.51 and it moved downward to reach the quarterly low of $53.57 on May 12. The high point was reached at a price of $62.80 on June 4. From there, this stock leveled off and finished the quarter at a price of $59.37 to give investors a little bit of profit per share.
