Rearview Mirror: Looking Back at Automotive Stocks for 6/1-6/4

Last week we lost one day when the stock market was closed for Memorial Day. Even so, we are looking back to see how our stocks performed.

All quarter long we review eight of the automotive stocks and the price movement from the previous week to understand how each one performed. The idea is to predict where the price will go and whether or not investors received returns from the previous week.

Toyota Motor Corp. (TM)

Toyota found a way to show a massive increase in price during the time the stock market was open last week. This stock started the week at $175.81 and moved sharply upward on Thursday. As Friday approached, the price moved up once again to open the day at $181.44 before this stock made its way to the high point of the week at $182.60 which was near the closing price.

Honda Motor Co. (HMC)

Looking back at what the Honda stock did last week we see another movement upward during the latter half of the week. After opening the week at $32.08, this stock moved up sharply on Thursday and then found a level point at $33.07 which was near the price this stock closed the week at. As the bell rang at the end of Friday, the HMC ticker was priced at $33.20 per share.

General Motors (GM)

GM made strong movements upward to reflect similar price movements to what the previous two stocks did. This stock began the week at $59.34 and then jumped to a high point on Thursday at $63.29 before it leveled off and rode this wave to the end of the day on Friday. Investors were happy with their returns from GM stock which closed the week at $63.21.

Workhorse Group (WKHS)

The price of the Workhorse Group stock is worth looking back at to see if it will ride a wave of success for investors. This stock started the week at a pedestrian price of $9.98 per share and then hit a sharp upward spike when the opening bell sounded on Thursday. This price reached $15.85 before it settled back down and leveled off to the end of the week. The Friday closing price came in at $13.05, which gave investors an impressive level of profits.

BYD Co. Ltd. (BYDDF)

One of the stocks we review that took a different path than the others last week was BYD. This stock started the week at $24.80 before dipping downward on Thursday where the price rode $24.34 throughout the day. When Friday began, the price was back up at $24.88 before crossing the $25 line to the finish of the week.

GreenPower Motor Co. (GP)

GreenPower rode a wave that looks much more like an EKG readout than what you want to see in a stock price. This stock ticker started the week at $16.96 and moved upward and downward to be more of a roller coaster ride than any other stock so far. The high price was reached on Thursday at $17.73. the final closing price of the week came in at $17.05 which shows a bit of a profit but after a rocky ride.

NIO Inc. (NIO)

When looking back at what the NIO stock price did last week, we see another stock that was up and down a lot. This stock began the week at $42.06 before moving down to a low point on Thursday at $40.43. The price recovered a little bit and reached $42.12 on Friday before settling back down to the closing point which came in at $41.58.

First Trust NASDAQ Global Auto Index Fund (CARZ)

CARZ gave us a similar path to its price throughout the week as some of the first few stocks we reviewed. This stock started last week at $60.77 and moved quickly upward with sharp movements on Thursday and Friday as the days began. The price reached a high point of $62.63 per share at the time of the closing bell on Friday.

Which Stocks Would You Invest In?

If you were looking back at the various stocks that we reviewed, you might look at some that are on the rise and think you should jump on the wave to see if you could make some money. On the other hand, if you believe in recovery, you might wait and see which stocks end the week at a low point before adding your money to the mix. The stocks that move quickly up and down are the ones you would likely want to avoid.
