The fact that we see more subcompact SUVs being built than ever in the past is a hint at what we are buying every year, but we also have a need for full-size SUVs for the number of passengers we may have. Especially in the North American market, full-size crossover SUVs are more popular than ever and this is the size we look to for the family drive that we’ll want to have when we head out on the road for the drive. This brings us to the new model that’s being developed by Alfa Romeo.
Didn’t Alfa just launch the Stelvio for us to drive? Yes, this model has recently been brought to the market for us to have a compact crossover SUV that has the seating for five people to be comfortable and a cargo area that can be perfect for a smaller family. If you need more seating, you can’t buy the Stelvio and expect it to get the job done, but you can look to the new model that Alfa is building that has yet to bear a name that we’ll know or recognize for the drive we need to enjoy.
What This New SUV Could Be?
Alfa Romeo has been working on a 48-volt hybrid system that could be part of this model and allow it to be an e-turbo model. With new legislation and vehicles that are going to cause us to drive vehicles that are hybrid models this could be the answer we need to have a larger SUV that can give us the power we want under the hood with the boost of a system that has more to offer than what we’ve seen in the past. This new model could share the same platform as the Stelvio and Giulia, but it will certainly be more of what you want if you choose it.
So far, the results that have been reported when using the 48-volt system and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to create nearly 400 horsepower which is the goal for a large SUV that will be expected to perform the way we demand from Alfa Romeo. The pursuit of this large SUV make sense because of the large profit margins that come with a luxury SUV that has the size desired for the drive we want to make on a daily basis.
Right now, the expected time frame for this new and larger SUV is about two years from now, which means we won’t see it until at least the 2020 model year. Even with that said, the thought of a new and impressive large SUV that wears this name is certainly something we want to look forward to. Think about taking seven people in a large Alfa Romeo SUV in the next few years, especially considering this brand was limited to the 4C coupe and spider at one point not too long ago and now appears to be ready to build an entire automotive line for us to drive.
