For over three decades, the G-Class we’ve seen from Mercedes-Benz has been a massive luxury SUV that has been made larger and more impressive in different forms for the driving experience at the top of the segment. Even though the Mercedes G is an SUV that very few customers actually take out to the trails where it could perform the right way and offer us a dynamic off-road experience, that hasn’t stopped Mercedes-Benz from building this SUV to the heights of the market when it was time to have an incredible luxury drive.
For several years, there has been a rumor that appears to finally be taking shape. The Mercedes-Benz team has been talking about taking their massive G-Class and dialing it back in size rather than pumping it up. There are several different models of SUVs that are currently in the lineup of Mercedes-Benz with the GLC, GLE, GLA, and GLS that are offered in the lineup. With this thought, it might seem like the new smaller model of the G-Class should follow in the same lineage, but this new model is one that won’t quite be the same as the others we’ve seen in the past.
Calling it the Baby G-Class
This is the rumor we’ve been hearing about and as the Mercedes-Benz GLB finally takes it shape and heads to the market it will be much different from what we see in the SUV category from this brand already. This impressive new model has been spied out testing on the roads and tracks to create the development needed to make sure you have an excellent ride. The plan is for Mercedes-Benz to perfect this SUV for the 2019 model year and offer this to the market sometime later this year for us to drive.
What we will see when this vehicle arrives on the market is an SUV that is smaller than the full sized G-Class, but has the room inside to be a luxury model that can offer you the space for seven passengers to enjoy the ride across three rows of seats. This impressive model will offer you a more angular and boxy design than the rest of the lineup to make it be one that looks much closer to the G-Class than the rest of the lineup for the look that’s different and amazing for the drive you’ll love in a luxury model from this brand.
The prototype that was caught in spy photos out testing on the tracks and test areas was much smaller than the G-Class and this meant the GLB would be the one we will want to have for the drive on the road. This new GLB model will share its platform with the new A-Class which will have similar powertrain options as the car with four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines that can be found under the hood. This new GLB should come in at an affordable price to be a luxury model with the seating for your family that fits between the GLA and GLC models in the lineup from Mercedes-Benz.
