GMC trucks are known for delivering quality interiors, a pleasant daily driving experience, and some of the most powerful engines. The GMC brand brings to mind some of the most powerful and capable trucks available. Over the years, GMC trucks have had quite a lot of variation in power. Let’s take a look at the top five ranked by horsepower.
1. Hummer EV
At the top of the heap is the ridiculously overpowered Hummer EV with 1,000 horsepower in the 3X package. Just to show how powerful it is despite its size and weight, the Hummer EV can go from zero to 60 mph in only 3.3 seconds. Without a doubt, the Hummer EV is among the most powerful EV trucks. It’s certainly possible that GM might push the Hummer EV to even greater levels of power in the future, but it’s plenty powerful as it stands right now.
2. GMC Sierra EV
The GMC Sierra EV is another expensive entry on the list, but it has the horsepower to match 760. It’s pretty much the most powerful truck in GMC’s current lineup of trucks, including gas and diesel models. It’s a bit slower than the Hummer, going from zero to 60 in just under 5 seconds. Among EV models, the Sierra EV isn’t terribly unusual. Many high-end EV models have incredible amounts of horsepower. However, for a truck, the Sierra EV is pretty impressive.
3. GMC Sierra HD
Just behind the Sierra EV in power are the GMC HD 2500 and 3500 trucks. These models both use a diesel engine that makes 470 horsepower. The main difference between the two is size and weight. The big boost in performance is actually quite recent. Only a few years ago, the HD trucks made significantly less horsepower at 445. Compared to other HD diesel trucks, the Sierra HD isn’t at the top of the heap. That goes to the Ford F-Series Super Duty. However, it’s easy to imagine that future models of the Sierra HD might boast even more powerful engines.
4. GMC Sierra 1500
When it comes to GMC lifted trucks, this is the model you’ll most likely find. It’s also pretty much the GMC flagship truck. It comes with various engine options, but the most powerful is the one that makes 420 horsepower. This truck is notably fast for its size and even sometimes feels too powerful with the 420-horsepower engine. In general, the GMC Sierra 1500 is one of the least expensive trucks in the GMC lineup. However, if you opt for the version with 420 horsepower, it quickly becomes one of the most expensive.
5. GMC Sprint
Now for a flashback. The GMC Sprint is no longer in production, but it was pretty impressive during its run. It was classified as a pickup truck, but was more like a car with a pickup bed. The Sprint put out 365 horsepower, which was impressive for its size, but that didn’t make it the most powerful truck of the time. Unfortunately, the fanbase for a car combined with a truck was never really there, and the Sprint only sold for a few years. Probably the only thing the Sprint had going for it was its powerful engine.
Honorable mentions from passenger truck models include the GMC Canyon and the GMC Syclone.
