Buick has Released a New EV Concept

By 2030, the Buick lineup will be comprised of only EV models, which is why a new concept vehicle gives us a look at what this brand will offer.

The Electra sub-brand name will be used for the Buick electric vehicles, and a new Wildcat EV concept is ready to show us some of what we might expect from this brand. The Wildcat is a new low fastback coupe that will make the car show tour soon. Unfortunately, this model will never make it to production; the entire lineup of Buick models will all be SUVs.

Design Elements Will Show Us the Future

The new Wildcat EV concept brings us a design exercise that shows off the future styling direction Buick will explore. You might think this brand would start with a concept SUV, considering the entire lineup will be made of SUVS, but instead, the Buick brand offers the future look that will come from a low, wide, and four-seat fastback coupe. Those that see the Wildcat will likely clamor for it to become a production model, but that is not part of the plan. What will the new Electra brand bring to the market?

This Isn’t the First Use of Electra

If the Buick Electra name sounds familiar, there’s a reason for that. While it’s about to be the name used for the Buick EV models offered, this name was used for the largest gas-guzzler Buick offered starting in 1959 and running for nearly 30 years. Considering it’s been 33 years since the last Electra model was part of the market, it doesn’t seem too surprising that most of us don’t know much about the previous vehicle using the name. The new electric Electra Buicks are a serious departure from the original versions.

The Wildcat is Only Meant for Styling

The Wildcat concept is supposed to be an EV model, but it doesn’t have the size or build to use the Ultium battery pack developed by GM. That’s not a problem for the Buick team. The Wildcat concept vehicle is made to offer the styling signature used for future Buick SUVs, giving the team a clear direction to use for the models being built. Strange as it might seem, the Wildcat concept is not a complete concept vehicle with shared items from every part of the car. Instead, it’s used to be a styling inspiration for the entire lineup.

We Will See the New Style Before the EVs Arrive

Instead of saving the new Buick styling elements for the EV models of the future, the designers are already applying this design language to the next lineup of gas-powered SUVs. The new-age design will arrive in each future Buick SUV model as new generations are created and offered. This influence, already at work in the studios, will show up no later than 2024 when we see some of the new models from this brand that we will enjoy the quality drive of a premium brand.

The First Electra for 2024

The first electric EV wearing the Electra name is scheduled to be part of the 2024 calendar year. This new SUV will go on sale in 2025 and be a vehicle that uses the same platform as the new Cadillac Lyriq. This new Buick Electra EV should have a similar size to the Lyriq and use the Ultium battery pack. The driving range might be as much as 300 miles on a full charge, whether one or two motors are part of the drivetrain of this new electric SUV. Until this new Electra arrives, we get to wonder what it will be when the time comes.

Nothing Like an EV

Have all of the EV models begun to look the same? If you think so, you’ll be pleased to know the Wildcat is made to look amazing and not look like the rest of the electric vehicles in the market. Buick already announced they wouldn’t do something the other automakers are doing. There will be a grille on the front of the various Electra models. This allows the new EV SUVs from Buick to offer a traditional and well-defined face that shows off the look and features that you expect to see when a car drives down the road.

A New Logo Appears on These Buicks

The new Buick EV models coming to the market offer you a new logo look that takes a bit of a move from the traditional look we know. The well-known Buick logo offers three connected shields inside a circle. The new logo only has the shields and shows a new loo to them. The new Buick logo will be illuminated from behind on the front of the future EV models, giving these new vehicles an attractive look that we’re sure to admire.

Some Things Won’t Translate

The new Buick Wildcat Concept shows up with an interior that’s much fancier than it should be. The seats are exotic-looking and could work on a high-end exotic car, but that’s not what you expect out of a Buick SUV. Another item that doesn’t make sense in an SUV is a door that has part of the roof open. The Wildcat needs this, but the Buick SUV models won’t require it. Some of the features inside also make no sense, such as aroma therapy that would automatically start based on your biometrics.

Buick Gives Us Something to Admire

The new lineup of Buick EV models will be a variety of SUVs that offer electric-only driving. These EV models will wear some styling from the Wildcat Concept, which pushes the design language forward for this brand. Before the end of the decade, you’ll see a full lineup of electric vehicles that offer you the drive you want with the brand you admire and trust. If you’re looking forward to what this brand will bring to the market, you won’t have to wait too long. The first Buick Electra appears for 2025 to be a new electric SUV you’ll want to drive and enjoy.
