Do you love the Chevy Equinox but want to drive an electric vehicle? Well, it looks like Chevy has you covered. They recently released a teaser video about the all-new upcoming Equinox EV.
Changing the Game with the Chevy Equinox EV
The electric version of the Equinox appears to be a smaller, sleeker, and more modern version of the gas-powered SUV. It has a curvy hood with walk-up lighting in the front that includes a thin full-width light strip that stretches across the front and a closed nose with a black surround. The C-shaped outer ends have horizontal lights. Around the sides, it has flush door handles and five-spoke wheels.
It also appears to have a blunt rear roofline to give it the typical crossover look, and the teaser video shows flared front fenders for a wide and athletic stance.
The Power and Range
There’s still a lot to learn about the new Equinox EV’s power and what kind of range it will get, but Chevy has confirmed that it will use GM’s Ultium Platform and batteries. This system is unique because instead of a single large cell, it has pouch-style cells that can be stacked in different configurations depending on how they will best fit in the vehicle.
We don’t have specific details about the Chevy Equinox EVs battery set up yet, but the Ultium platform ranges from 50 to 200 kWh and provides a range of up to 400 miles. Depending on the vehicle, acceleration from zero to 60 can be as quick as three seconds, and the platform supports front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
An Updated Interior Design
Inside, this new Chevy looks like it will have a fully digital instrument cluster in front of the driver and a touch screen in the center of the dash. The screens are housed together on the same horizontal panel to give it a floating effect. There’s no gear shifter stalk, leaving plenty of room for storage in the center console.
Additionally, the interior design uses as few buttons as possible to give the cabin a clean look. However, it does have physical controls for some basic functions, such as temperature and airflow. The round air conditioning vents give the cabin a sporty feel, and the flat bottomed steering adds to this.
Super Cruise
GM continues to roll out new vehicles with their Super Cruise hands-free driving technology, and the Equinix EV is one of them. There are over 200,000 miles of compatible roads that will allow the Equinox EV to take over the driving as long as the driver stays attentive behind the wheel. The steering wheel even has the green light bar that confirms the availability of Super Cruise.
There are some exciting things in the works for Chevy, and the new Equinox EV is just one of several new EVs coming. You can also expect to see a Blazer EV in the near future.
