Exploring the Chevrolet Camaro Engine Options

The Chevrolet Camaro. Few cars evoke more images, more memories, more legend and lore than the Camaro when it’s driving fast down a strip.

Since the dawn of the muscle car era so many decades ago, it has not only defined what it means to possess American muscle. It has defined the driving experience itself. Thanks to a slew of legendary powerplants over the years, from the original 327 small block to the famous Turbo Jet 396 big block found in classic-era SS models, the only thing equally as famous as the Camaro itself is the engine motivating it down the strip.

Today’s Camaro is no different, offering a bevy of exciting options beneath the hood.

And much like the contemporary styling, which hearkens back to the golden age of the Camaro, with its angular lines, ultra-aggressive stance, and boxy and super-intimidating front end, the modern Camaro’s powerplant options blend the cannon blast roar and no-holds-barred power of yesteryear with the performance of today… and tomorrow.

Let’s take a deeper look into what kind of engine options you’ll have to choose from in an all-new Chevrolet Camaro.

The Modern Legend

Let’s start right at the top, with the most gnarly and Earthquaking motor available in the Camaro. That is a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 LT4 found in the all-new ZL1 package. It’s a motor that makes up to 650-horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque and one that can get you from zero-to-sixty in a world-class 3.5 seconds.

Hold on tight. It’s about to get fast.

The Pony

Beneath the hood of all SS and some LT models, you’ll find the classic 6.2-liter V8 that makes 455 horses and 455 pound-feet of torque, giving you a drive that is closer than ever to those legendary Camaros of old (of course, with tons and tons of modern performance upgrades and flair).

This is a virtually unbeatable motor that is equally at home on the highway as it is on the track.

The V6

When a V6 makes well over 300 horses, you know you’re into something good.  And that’s what you’ll get in other LT models. That is, a 335-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 that makes 284 pound-feet of twist, giving you all the fun at a much lower sticker price.

The Turbo Two

Maybe blinding speed and fearsome power isn’t your thing. Maybe you just want to drive something fun, something that looks darn cool, and something that can still offer plenty of get-up-and-go.

The LS Camaro features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that is capable of making 275 horses and 295 pound-feet of torque, making it perhaps the most exciting daily-driving 2.0-liter ever built.
