Adding Another Electric Car to the BMW Lineup

Adding Another Electric Car to the BMW Lineup

The BMW electric lineup has been two polar opposites for the past few years with the i8 and i3 giving you different ways to drive an EV.

The powerful and aggressive i8 sports car is one that can be a lot of fun when you get it on the road. This model has been touted as one of the most advanced cars on the market. On the other end of the spectrum has been the small hatchback model of the i3 which is easy to admire and a bit of fun while being affordable and right for the daily drive. Now, we will see a new vehicle offered by this division of BMW.

The New i4 Arrives

The upcoming model to be added to the mix is the new i4 which is an electric sedan that will offer s a drive that’s anything but pedestrian. This is a car that should be thought of as a 4-Series model that’s a standalone version in this market. This car looks a lot like the next 4-Series Gran Coupe with a slightly higher ride height to make room for the battery packaging offered for the drive. This new i4 will use the BMW CLAR architecture which is used for the new 3-Series models.

Options Could be Offered

Most of the time, a battery pack is offered in one size for a vehicle and we don’t see a lot of options for the power or the range that an EV can give us. Tesla is one company that offers a variety of choices for the drive and BMW has decided to make similar strides by allowing this new i4 to have a few choices for you to have the range and power you want. While we don’t know exactly what that size will be of the batteries or the range, we expect to see one model that offers up to 375 miles of range while most will give us somewhere around 250 miles of range.

A Different Design Idea

Rather than offering more electric models that look extremely different from the standard BMW lineup, the team has decided to give you a choice. It’s possible for you to have an i4 and never let your neighbors know you’re driving an electric car until you get in and start it for the drive. Because the BMW styling is one that we admire and has admired for a long time, many of the electric vehicles offered in the future will mimic the standard lineup.

More BMW Electricity in the Future

The new BMW i4 will only be the third model offered by this division of the company. We should expect to see a variety of models that will follow to complete the lineup of electric cars that we can drive. Eventually, there will also be some electric SUV models that will be offered from the i Division of the brand to make sure we can have the right size and style of the vehicle we want as more electric models are created for our drive.
