Honda took the time to develop a concept car with a name that brings us the thought of what the future can hold. The Honda Augmented Driving Concept is a car that offers a futuristic look to the present driver. The Honda team brought this car to the Consumer Electronics Show to give us a taste of what is on the road map for Honda.
A March Forward at Honda
When you see the Honda Augmented Driving Concept, you would have a hard time arguing against the fact that Honda is marching toward autonomy and the ability to free up drivers—automating the drive. You can sit back, relax, and appreciate the world around you when traveling to your destination. The self-driving feature is always on standby, but it can give you various user input levels via the eight different driving modes. These modes provide you with as much or as little control.
This Honda Drives Differently
Rather than giving you pedals to control the acceleration and braking, the steering wheel, which looks a lot like a colander, fills the job of giving you the pedal functions and the steering functions in one place. Pull back on the wheel, and the car slows down, pushing it forward and accelerating. This sounds backward, but it won’t matter with this Honda.
Very Little to See in the Cabin
Stepping into the Honda Augmented Driving Concept car cabin, you’ll see a place that has very little for you to see. This could be because the car is a concept that might not ever make it to the roads to become a car that we can drive every day. You don’t need keys to start this car, and you can enjoy a clean and uninterrupted style on the dashboard. Of course, if this car were ever to be put into production, these things might change.
Some Items Might Come to the Market
Don’t expect the pedal-less drive of the Honda Augmented Driving Concept car to make its way to the market, but you could see the starting function, which only requires a double-tap on the wheel to get things going. We also see some of the self-driving functionality of this car in the future when we see the Honda models offered. This new concept model could bring us technological advancements that we will see in the future models provided by the Honda brand that will be part of what we drive every day.
