Rather than trying to tell you what you should think, it’s time for you to make up your own mind regarding Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
This visionary entrepreneur has been one of the most impressive and intelligent people we’ve seen in the world, but are his ideas right for the automotive industry? Is it right for him to turn his back on traditional ways of doing business in order to carve out his own path? Let’s take a look at what some of his ideas have been and you can decide how you feel.
Crazy or Genius; You Decide
A Bold Personality
It’s certainly easy to admire a person who is bold enough to try their hand at nearly anything including starting a car company in America where we have had the Big Three for over 100 years. Not only did he start a car company that has experienced a variety of levels of success, he decided to make this company one that would only build electric cars. This bold personality has also been shown in other companies that Elon Musk has been the head of.
A Distracted Person
Musk has dipped his toe into a lot of areas and doesn’t have a singular focus. This distracted personality can be a bit of a detriment when a company as large and diverse as Tesla is in need of his attention. The Tesla brand tried to build a semi-truck and sold surfboards at one point while Musk also put his energies into SpaceX and energy companies that haven’t quite gotten to where he wants them yet. With too many irons in the fire, the distracting nature of Elon Musk might eventually spell doom for the Tesla brand as a whole.
Extremely Wealthy
When you’ve got $20 billion to work with, it seems that you can do a lot of things and have several ventures. As the founder of PayPal, which was eventually sold to eBay, Elon Musk has grown his wealth to a point where he can fund many of the operations and companies that he’s part of. His wealth has helped keep Tesla afloat for some of the time that it’s been in business because he was able to put his own money on the line when projects needed to be completed and meet certain deadlines.
Quick on the Trigger
It’s been well-documented that Elon Musk doesn’t mind getting into a discussion on social media regarding any criticism of him or his companies. He has been famous for being in the conversations that can eventually backfire on him and this has caused him to lose credibility in some circles. The reactionary personality of Elon Musk isn’t what you expect from the CEO of a major corporation, but it is part of what makes him a unique person and one that isn’t afraid to try different things. Whether you like his reactions or not, he’s not afraid to support his ventures and his stance.
Creates a Captive Audience
If you’re unsure of how Elon Musk has the ability to capture an audience, all you need to look at is the fact that the Model 3 was such a huge hit right away. With over 450,000 pre-orders of this car that wasn’t even promised to be delivered for at least another year, many customers around the world put their trust in the idea and the strong words of Elon Musk to be able to deliver the most affordable electric vehicle on the market. This had customers clamoring to get in line.
Almost a Religious Experience
Not only has Elon Musk captured a captive audience, but Tesla is also certainly followed in a way that zealots would follow a religious leader that has captured them in many ways. Elon Musk has found a way to create this atmosphere and garner a following that’s close to dangerous. It seems anyone who speaks out against Tesla or Musk is struck down as a non-believer in much the same way the Crusades went about casting out those that didn’t follow Christian church teaching many centuries ago. Call Elon Musk a modern-day crusader if you must.
