You Can Detail Your Car With the Right Stuff

If you choose to handle the detailing of your car on your own, or at least between the detail appointments you make, you’ll want to have the right tools for the job. What might surprise you is the fact that you need to have at least three different types of microfiber towels to ensure you have the right towel for the job at hand. A microfiber towel is a blend of polyester and polyamide and this blend gives you the scrubbing and absorbent properties you need. Here are the three towels you need to have and what they should be comprised of for your detailing work.

Glass Towel –The glass towel is perfect for your window and this towel should be somewhere between 200 and 300 GSM (Grams per Square Meter, which measures the density of the towel) and it needs to have a waffle pattern to it. This towel should also be a 70/30 blend of polyester to polyamide. As you use these towels you need to make sure they are kept separate from the rest to ensure you can keep them clean and avoid cross-contamination of your towels that are used on the glass.

Paint Towels –This microfiber towel needs to be between 300 and 400 GSM in order to be the right towel to pick up wax off the paint and be the right one to clean interior leather and materials. Avoid choosing a towel with a 500 GSM density because the longer fibers tend to be difficult to use when trying to remove wax from the paint. Stick to the range stated and you’ll have a collection of towels that will work well for you during your own detailing efforts in between visits to the professionals.

Throwaway Towels –We all have that area of the vehicle that’s extremely dirty and we certainly don’t want to use our glass or paint towels on this area. The throwaway towels are perfect for the door jam, engines or any other area that tends to get extremely dirty. These towels have the lowest GSM and aren’t dense enough to work on your paint, but they can be excellent for this extra dirt. They are typically cheap enough that if you can simply toss them out when you get them too dirty, rather than spending time and energy washing them.

Make sure you have the right towels for the job and keep your vehicle detailed and looking great. Don’t forget to remove the tag from the towels once you purchase them to help avoid the tag becoming a problem for you when you’re working on your vehicle. Take a look at this video below and learn more about which towels you need to get the job done right. Summer isn’t over yet and you can still ride around in a vehicle that’s been detailed and kept looking great when you have the right tools to get the job done the right way.
