Hyundai is one of the most admired brands on the market for the fact that it often offers a variety of features as part of the standard items offered on the road. With plans to offer us a pickup truck in the future, the team at Hyundai has already targeted the midsize truck market in order to offer you the quality and performance you want for the drive. The new Hyundai pickup truck will be called the Santa Cruz and it will arrive in 2020. Because of this, the first thing we want to think about for this new truck is what will power the vehicle.
You wouldn’t expect the Hyundai Santa Cruz to be offered with a massive V8 engine, especially since it will be the first foray into the midsize truck class for Hyundai in a long time. This brand appears to be thinking along the lines of the Volkswagen Amarok with its diesel V6 engine, but will likely lean more toward something similar to the expected 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that will be offered in the Ford Ranger when it finally makes its arrival on the market in the next couple of years.
Challenging the Norm
When the pair of GM midsize trucks reentered the market the door was blasted wide open for upgraded and improved models to make their way to the roads for us to enjoy. This part of the pickup truck market had become one that has only a few models and plenty of room for more models to be added to the class. The new Hyundai Santa Cruz is the truck that will fill part of this market and as a truck that should be value-oriented, it could be the choice for many who want truck functions without the truck ride.
This brings us to a precarious place when it comes to how this truck can be powered when it reaches the market. The Santa Cruz could use the same twin-turbocharged V6 engine that comes from the Kia Stinger, offering 365 horsepower for the need on the roads and for the work you want to get done. The only drawback to this engine is the fact that it might cause the truck to be extremely expensive compared to the other models on the market in this truck size that is what we want for a daily drive and the truck for weekends.
Of course, the power for this truck could be different than this engine when it does finally make itsway to the market in a couple of years. Over that period of time, Hyundai could come up with a different plan or a tuned down V6 that costs less to produce. It will be interesting to see how Hyundai makes its way into the midsize pickup truck market with a truck that offers the qualities and benefits desired for weekend work and the performance and efficiency needed on a daily basis from this brand.
